Information - Keto-diastix test strips
Keto-diastix reagent strips provide a fast and convenient way of testing urine for the presence and concentration of glucose and ketone. When dipped in urine test areas change colour according to the amount of glucose and ketone in the urine. Ketones are substances made in your body when it burns fat for energy. Normally the body burns sugar (glucose) for energy; however, because of the absence or an insufficient amount of insulin in people with diabetes, sugar cannot be burned to supply energy for the body. Since your body has to have fuel (energy) to run, it turns to the fat stored in your body to get its energy. When this happens, ketones are formed in the blood and finally go into the urine. The presence of ketone is really the body's signal that something out of the ordinary is happening. If you have diabetes the presence of glucose in the urine can be an indication that your diabetes may be out of control. Use Keto-diastix to alert you and your doctor to changes in your condition for which adjustments in your diet and/or medication are needed.
Use
Collect urine in a clean, dry container and test it as soon as possible or pass the stick through the urine stream.
Important Notes
Never use the strips if they are expired. To keep strips fresh keep your finger or other objects from touching the reactive areas. Store below 30C and do not refridgerate. Use within 6 months of opening. Keep unused strips in the original container and with the container tightly capped.
