Information - Butacort Nasal Spray
Butacort nasal spray contains a corticosteriod (budesonide 50mcg), which gives short-term prevention and treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis commonly known as Hayfever. Butacort 50 helps alleviate symptoms such as sore itchy eyes, runny nose and blocked sinuses. Butacort nasal spray does take a few days to achieve full effect, so using the spray regularly is important.
Use
The usual dosage for adults and children over 12 years is initially one or two sprays into each nostril twice a day (morning and night), then after 2 to 3 days, one spray into each nostril twice a day. Do not use Butacort for children under 12 years of age without first consulting with a doctor.
Your doctor may tell you to use different doses to these. If so, follow their instructions.
It usually takes 2 to 3 days before you notice any improvement in your symptoms.
If you suffer from hayfever, you should start your treatment just before the hayfever season to prevent symptoms from starting.
If hayfever symptoms do not improve within 7 days of treatment, see your doctor.
Do not use for more than 6 months unless instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Ingredients
Each spray contains 50 micrograms of the active ingredient budesonide.
The liquid also contains disodium edetate, dispersible cellulose, glucose (anhydrous), hydrochloric acid, polysorbate, potassium sorbate and purified water.
Important notes
Precautions
Do not use butacort if you have a severe nasal or sinus infection, have re-occurring nasal bleeding or haemorrhagic diathesis.
Do not use butacort for children under 12 years of age, without first consulting with your doctor.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other corticosteroid medication, consult with your doctor before using butacort.
If you have recently had an injury or surgery to your nose, or problems with ulceration in your nose, consult with your doctor before using butacort.
If you experience acute eye pain or visual disturbance, consult with your doctor.
If you develop signs or symptoms of infection such as fever, nasal or facial pain or swelling, discoloured or purulent(pus containing) nasal discharge or bleeding from the nose, consult your doctor.
Do not exceed the stated number of sprays each day.
If your hayfever symptoms have not improved within 7 days of using butacort, consult with your doctor.
Do not use butacort for more than 6 months except on medical advice.
Do not use butacort if you have an allergy to Budesonide.
